It’s that time of year again, time for the boys, and Lexi if she so chooses, to get together for the big game. There will be lots of cheering and I am sure some booing and some very hungry football fans. Normally it’s just my husband and Gavin watching the games, so I have never worried about putting out a spread for them. However, since we moved to Ohio a few months ago, my husband now has many family members, who are also football fans, to invite over for the games. Now I need to make sure that I have food for them to eat, so one thing that I want to put out for them is a recipe that did for Thanksgiving that was a hit. My Zesty Ranch Cheese Ball is sure to please our guests and is super easy to put together.
First things first, I headed to Walmart and picked up everything I needed for a successful Game Time celebration. Cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, ranch packets, shredded cheese, Ritz Crackers and Coca-Cola. The Ritz Crackers are very important, it’s the buttery goodness of Ritz Crackers that really make each bite pop! And Coca-Cola is the perfect beverage for this Game Time treat.
As I said, this recipe is super easy to put together:
- 16 oz Cream Cheese, room temperature
- 3 TBSP Ranch Seasoning
- ½ TBSP Worcestershire Sauce
- ¼ tsp Garlic Powder
- 3 Cups Shredded Cheese
Cream together the softened cream cheese with the ranch, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and 1 cup of the shredded cheese. Then put it in the fridge to firm up, roughly 30 minutes should do. Lay cling wrap on your surface, big enough to accommodate the cheese ball mixture and 2 more cups of shredded cheese. Put 1 cup of cheese on the cling wrap and spread it in a single round layer not too much bigger than the cheese ball mixture. Place the mixture on top of the cheese in a semi-round shape and add the remaining cheese on top.
Then start pressing cheese on to any empty spots as much as you can. There may be some cheese that won’t stick and that is good, you can reserve to fix any spots later. Wrap the ball up in the cling wrap and round it out into the proper ball shape. My tip is to shape it into a football, I am not that skilled, so round is perfect for me. Find a bowl with a relatively round bottom and place the ball in to help keep its shape. Stick in the fridge for several hours or even overnight to fully firm up.
When it’s time to put out the food, simply remove it from the cling wrap and put on your desired dish, I recommend an actual cheese ball dish and knife because they are a perfect size, but any small plate or bowl will do. If some cream cheese mixture has leaked out, use your reserved cheese to patch them up and make it perfect. Put on the table with some delicious, buttery Ritz Crackers.
Don’t forget some crisp, cold Coca-Cola for all your guests and then sit down and enjoy the game!
