Paint Tag is a great way of bringing the tropics to my yard for summer fun for the whole family!!!
Even though the weather here in Arizona is uncomfortably scorching, I have to say that it is probably the best summer we have experienced in quite some time! My father in law, who we have not seen in 10 years, is visiting us and finally meeting his grandson for the first time. Let’s just say that they have hit it off big time and he is being schooled on all things Pokemon thanks to Gavin. And although I am sure he is only understanding every other word and is not the least bit interested in pocket monsters, he is a big ole softy and just letting the boy rattle on and on.
Since the kids are able to convince him to do pretty much anything at this point, they decided that they wanted to play a game of Paint Tag with their grandpa in the yard to cool off. He was happy to oblige because lets face it, it’s too hot to do otherwise and we don’t want to be stuck inside all day. It’s an easy, fun, colorful and messy game that is perfect for hot summer days. How you play is this:
Pails or buckets (if they have shovels, even better)
Tempera paints (we chose tropical colors to emulate summer)
If you have standard sized sponges, you can cut them into fours, making sure that they fit well into the shovels, if you have them.
Next, fill the pails/buckets with water and then add a little paint to the water. You can make them as pigmented as you would like, more paint for bright and colorful or less paint if you want the colors to be much lighter.
Divide up the sponges between the pails and make sure they are fully saturated and ready for play.
The shovels that came with the pails were actually quite useful as catapults and Eric had fun using his to aim at the kids, but the kids were very happy to just use their hands. It seems that the messier they got, the happier they were! When they first went out to play, they broke up into teams, oldies vs. youngins and at one point I told them “on the count of 3, everyone get Grandpa”!! Yeah, I think I am in trouble for that one, hehe!!
They were soaked and very colorful by the time they were done and oh so ready for dinner!
Now, as much as I love how colorful the shirts are, I really do prefer whites to be white, so off to the wash went the clothes! To go with the tropical theme that we had with the colors, I used all® Fresh Tropical Mist™ laundry detergent.
Not only does it get out even the toughest of stains, the new tropical scent reminds me of my other favorite summer, the summer I went to Hawaii as a child. Fresh and flowery and brings that wonderful tropical feel into my home, right where I want it. And all it took was a quick trip to Family Dollar to bring the tropics home, especially since I have always trusted the cleaning power of all®.
