I was sent a #DisneySide at home celebration kit to host our party. all experience and opinions are 100% my own.
Recently, I was asked to host a #DisneySide party on behalf of Disney Parks and Mom Select. Of course the answer was a resounding yes as we are definitely a Disney family! If it’s a Disney movie, we have to see it, if it has a Disney character on it, we must buy it! We are sometimes obsessive about all things Disney. What could be wrong with that?
So we set a date and sent the invites and started planning using all the magical things Mom Select sent me in my kit!
First thing you need to plan is the food and don’t forget to give your food some fun names!! My kit contained a Mickey Mouse cake pan and Duff Tie Dye Cake mix and I knew that would be the star of all the food. I had never actually decorated a cake before and this was my first attempt. I am quite thrilled how it turned out. If you have reservations about decorating a Mickey cake, don’t sweat it, it will be worth it in the end.
We decided that we wanted more than just cake for dessert too so Mickey Mouse cupcakes became a must. Very simple, Yellow cake mix (to resemble Mickeys skin), chocolate frosting with optional black food dye and 2 mini oreos! They were a hit at the party, especially with the kids.
Moving on to the non dessert foods. We served several different things, some we bought, others we made. Let’s start with snacks:
We bought some Chex Mix and put them in these adorable treat containers that I received in my kit and my sister said that they looked like pirates treasure, the chex pieces being gold and the pretzels being rings so it became Pirate Booty!
Next, my sister again had a great idea. On her way to the party, she stopped at the store and saw Bugles and immediately saw Fantasia hats and well, of course they were added to the table.
After all these snacks, I needed to make sure to give the kids (and us adults) some healthy treats as well! Luckily Crunch Pak sent me some coupons for free Foodles. Adorable Mickey shaped containers with fruit, cheese and pretzels. The kids loved them and had fun trading grapes for pretzels pieces and vice versa. We have since kept these in stock in our fridge because we all love them. They are convenient ways of getting our apples and grapes.
My personal favorite was the meatballs and dipping sauce. I found these little meatballs in the freezer section of my grocery store and decided to give them a try and they were delicious but paired with the sauce, they were unstoppable. The sauce is very simple, Soy Vay Veri Veri Teriyaki that I received in my kit and is served at Disney World and a small amount of A1 sauce. That is it, so simple and yet so tasty. Everyone at the party loved it and used it for more than just their meatballs. In fact, Lexi has requested them for her birthday party in a few weeks.
Speaking of foods that Lexi is requesting, she also wants these Hot Diggity Dogs. Yet another simple food albeit very time consuming! Instead of hot dogs, I wanted Lil’ Smokies with Cheddar Cheese because I haven’t had them in years. Then I took 4 cans of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, cut each triangle in half and rolled up the Lil’ Smokies and baked them. We had a total of 13 people at the party and all 64 Hot Diggity Dogs that I made got devoured! I highly recommend the Lil’ Smokies over hot dogs any day! Oh and these taste fantastic with the sauce too.
The next thing I made was Mickey Mouse shaped sandwiches and they were so cute. I took my Mickey Mouse cookie cutter and cut about a loaf and a half of bread into Mickey heads and then did the same with some turkey, ham, swiss and cheddar cheeses. The little kids had a blast making their own little sandwiches.
Don’t forget drinks!! We had some water on hand for the guests but for the most part, we gave them juice. Yes, the cups below are empty, that’s because we had 3 flavors to choose from and wanted the kids to pick them out for themselves!!
All in all, the food was a hit with everyone and I kid you not, as I write this post, I am getting hungrier by the minute. Just looking at this….yum!
Ok, now that the food is all done, it’s time to plan the activities! We played some Disney trivia, wordsearch, bingo and Pin the Smile on Mickey! We gave out medals and candy treats as prizes and everyone was a winner! Pin the Smile on Mickey was especially fun.
I had also picked up some fun scene setters at Party City to do a photo shoot with our favorite characters! We had Tinkerbell for the girls and Monsters University for the boys, although to be honest, us gals loved us some Mike and Sulley too!
We even got hubby to join in on the festivities, and if you knew him, you would know how hard that is!
The photo shoot was pretty much the end of the party. The kids are starting to tire out and us moms, well we were exhausted. The party was a hit, in fact, most of the kids called it Epic, and even though we were so tired, it was worth all the fun. We just had one more thing to do.
Pass out the party favors! I picked up these Minnie and Mickey buckets and craft kits for each kid from Party city as well as a bunch of little favors, such as bubbles and crayons, then I got some activity books from Walmart. Amber picked up some other activity packs and some makeup for the girls from Walgreens. The best parts of the favor buckets though were the personalized gifts that I chose for each child. I thought about what each kid loves and bought them each something specific to them. The last thing that went into the favor buckets, were Brothers All Natural Fruit Crisp packs. The kids loved these and Gavin now asks for them all the time. I especially like the Strawberry Banana. Oh and Brothers All Natural would like to give my readers 15% off their purchases, just use coupon code DisneyParty15.
This is how we show our #DisneySide, how do you show yours? Who is your favorite Disney character of all time?
