I have a confession to make, I am sort of addicted to Angry Birds and when I knew they were making a movie, I got excited! Thankfully my kids like them too and have been waiting for the movie for awhile now, because I really don’t want to watch it alone!
Well, we finally got around to it this week and it’s really thanks to our wireless phone plan. As I am sure you are aware if you have been around for awhile, we are with Walmart Family Mobile, and have been for well over a year now. We will not be changing plans anytime soon as we have been nothing but happy with the service, the price and the extra benefits. At only $49.88 a month per line for 10GB of 4G LTE data PLUS of Unlimited talk, text and data, it’s a steal. The PLUS is what makes it even better because with it we get a free movie (new release $7 value) a month per line from VUDU. For us, that is 3 free movies a month and that comes in handy because we do Family Movie Night every weekend. And the beauty of using VUDU for us is that we got rid of cable awhile ago and have both a smart TV and a Roku stick, both of which are able to stream VUDU movies. So every movie we own through VUDU is ready to watch again and again.

We recently needed to pick up a new phone for hubby as his was getting old and we decided on the HTC Desire 530 on rollback for $129.00 and had to buy him a new Starter Kit because his new phone takes a Nano sim card as opposed to a micro like his old one. But that’s okay because the Starter Kits are also on rollback and for the first time ever, only $19.88! Since Family Mobile bills us later, we only had to pay $19.88.
So I went to Walmart and headed to the electronics department and got his new phone. We looked for the special Angry Bird Event that is going on in many stores, unfortunately our store wasn’t participating. We should have checked the website to see if there was one near us! We could have gotten a special code for a power up in the Angry Birds game, something I really want!! There is also an Angry Birds display, well at some stores, not mine, where you can scan the Angry Birds code on the displays to unlock a selfie augmented reality experience with the Hatchlings.
When I got home, he immediately wanted to open it and get started on it, he was like a kid on Christmas morning! I then told him that he couldn’t have it yet because I needed pictures. As you can see, he was not happy, he asked me “what do you mean I can’t have my new phone?” So, he smiled that creepy smile and said “there, I posed and smiled, can I have it now?”
I love that man! Don’t worry, I let him play with it for awhile and wouldn’t you know, he immediately downloaded Angry Birds!
So, it was time to make a special treat to eat during the movie and the kids had been asking to make cupcakes for awhile, so I let them have at it and they had fun and ultimately made some really yummy cupcakes.
As the title suggests, these are EASY, so no need to pull out a million ingredients, just head back to Walmart and pick up your favorite vanilla cake mix and white frosting as well as fruit pie fillings. Also, if you don’t have food coloring, might want to pick them up, I suggest gel instead of liquid.
I chose to do strawberry pie filling for Red, fresh blueberries for The Blues, lemon pie filling for Chuck and key lime pie filling for Leonard and the Pigs!
First things first, make your cake batter per the instructions. I love how well they work together sometimes!
Next, pour the batter into cupcake liners.
In 3 of them, add some of the fresh blueberries, as many as you want but just know, if you add too much, they will all sink to the bottom.
Then stick them in the oven per the instructions again. While you wait for them to bake, separate your frosting into 4 bowls and add food coloring. Again, have a kid mix it for you.
Trust me, they WILL thank you!!!
Once the kids were done mixing the food coloring and frosting, Lexi pulled out the phone that she stole from her dad and Gavin asked “when can I have a phone?” She told him that he was only 8 and he had to wait 3 years. I could have sworn that was my decision and besides, she was wrong, its only 2 years hehe!
So she started playing Angry Birds and yeah, he wasn’t too happy about that, he didn’t want to be bored while the cupcakes were baking.
Luckily, I taught my kids to share!!!
Once the cupcakes are done and they have cooled completely, it’s time to fill them. I like to use an apple corer to take out a chunk of cupcake. Don’t worry, there were no wasted foods, the kids ate everything they removed.
Next, grab a spoonful of filling, isn’t that strawberry gorgeous?
And fill the cupcake holes!
Again, the kids filling the cupcakes will thank you and will more than likely get more on their hands than we would consider accidental just so they can lick it all off!
I loved how they all turned out, especially the blueberry ones and almost hated to add the frosting, ALMOST!
Now it’s time to add the frosting! The kids wanted to try out my pastry bags and they got all but the green done until their hands were hurting and decided to just spoon on the green! Hubby said that it was for the pigs and pigs are sloppy so it made sense, I liked that!
And how was the movie you ask……it was pretty funny, I loved it and so did the kids. I gotta say, my favorite characters were definitely the pigs!!
