Hey there, I am Lena and you may have noticed some BIG changes here at LenaRenee.com! First of all, if you are a REALLY long time reader, you may remember that it used to be Uncreative Mommy. When my kids got a little older and I stopped blogging about them as much, I needed a change, so I moved on over to Lena Renee. Then I had a bit of a blog identity crisis. I had no clue what to talk about if not my kids. After a few years of barely blogging, I gave it up. It was hard, it was emotional, but in the end, I knew it was right.
Then Covid happened, the world changed, education changed. And after a failed week of online school, I decided to homeschool my son. Not just until the world goes back to some semblance of normal, but for good. The moment I made the decision, my first instinct was to blog about it, to let everyone know that we are embarking on a new and somewhat terrifying journey. Then I remembered that I completely gutted my blog, erased a lot of the content (saved some in Google Drive), and uninstalled WordPress. Well, that sucks!
So I went to work, researching the laws in my state, shopping for curriculum and supplies, doing all the things, all while getting things up and running here on the blog. I can easily say that I have not slept a whole lot recently, but it is all worth it.
So here you are, ready to join us on this journey and I say welcome to the crazy house. Because that is exactly what it is now. You will not find Pinterest worthy classroom pictures or perfectly executed projects and experiments. Our classroom is our living room, his desk is a card table and a recliner. Books and supplies are spread into every corner of the room. It is pure chaos, but it works for us.
So if you are looking for the perfect classrooms, and beautiful pictures and all that jazz, you will not find it here. Also, we are secular, so if you are looking for faith-based ideas and experiences, they are not here either. But please, do not let that deter you, all are welcome here, always.
So now, a little about us, I am Lena but I am sure you already know that. I am originally from Arizona, where I lived for 27 years. Where I met my husband and where my babies were born. After a while though, it stopped feeling like home and we decided to move to Ohio, where my husband is from. We love it here and do not miss the Arizona heat. If you are thinking about moving to Arizona, I do not recommend it, but you do you!!
My oldest child, Lex, is now 20 years old and a junior in college, oh where did the years go? They are majoring in Theatre and English and their goal is to be a stage manager. However, they also have a passion for editing, so a career at a publishing company would be perfect for them.
My son Gavin is a hair awhile from 13, literally 3 days from the writing of this page, and in the 7th grade. However, we have decided not to categorize him as a specific grade anymore. I will be doing a post soon about this, but at this moment, he is working at a 7th and 8th-grade level, depending on the subject. So we are just saying that he is middle school. Gavin wants to be a marine biologist and is determined to do well in his studies, get a full-ride scholarship to an amazing college, and have a fulfilling career!
My husband Eric is not only my high school sweetheart and my soulmate but also the biggest pain in my ass! However, he is an amazing husband and father and I couldn’t do any of this without his undying support and patience!
So there you have it, our family, in a nutshell. Please stay a while and get to know us a little more. You might learn something useful, heck you might learn what not to do, but at least you will be learning! You will find my quirky sense of humor that makes sense to only me, my ghastly puns, and way too many exclamation points because that’s just how I roll!!!
